How can I Come to Canada as a Skilled Worker in 2024?

The Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSW) is designed for people selected for immigration to Canada because of their work experience and skills.

Important Note: Starting from January 1, 2015, candidates for participation in the Federal Skilled Workers Program will be selected to submit applications through the express entry system. If you submitted your application before January 1, 2015, your application will be reviewed in accordance with the previous system.

Eligibility and Conditions for a Canada Skilled Worker Immigrant

To be eligible to apply and come to Canada as a Skilled Worker, you must:

✔️ There is a job offer; or
✔️ Be eligible to work in Canada; or
✔️ Will you be able to prove that you have enough money to support yourself and your dependents after arriving in Canada;
and have at least 1 year of full-time qualified work experience (or equivalent); meet the minimum language level of proficiency in English or French; Have a certificate of secondary education, diploma, or academic degree; Plan to live outside the province of Quebec. 

What kind of work experience do I need?

Your work experience must correspond to either Qualification Type 0, Qualification Level A, or Qualification Level B according to the Canadian National Classification of Professions (NOC).

Your work experience must be paid, full-time, or an equivalent number of part-time hours. A full-time job means at least 30 hours a week. You must have had such work experience for the last 10 years.

These restrictions and limits do not apply if you have a permanent job offer.

FSW Points System

You need to score at least 67 points to be eligible to apply as an FSW. You get different points depending on:
✔️ Your education;
✔️ Your ability in English and/or French (2 official languages of Canada);
✔️ Your work experience;
✔️ Your age;
✔️ If you have organized work in Canada; and
✔️ Your adaptability.

Please note that the FSW points system differs from the Express entry system.

How do I apply for an FSW?

If you are eligible to apply for the FSW category, you can submit your profile for Canadian Express Entry registration. Express Entry is a new online application system for economic immigration categories such as FSW.
